- an avatar manifesto - by Kara Gut

15/04/2017 - 15/05/2017

Wayshrines I, II, & III (an avatar manifesto) is a combination of appropriated media, screen recordings, and performance in digital environments in which the avatar exists as a replacement for the physical being. Wayshrines attempts to overturn power structures that exist within a web-based reality by appropriating and reinterpreting virtual representations. The work calls into question the alternative moral code that exists when confronting the immortal digital body.

Dot.Art is is an exhibition and events programme presenting artworks from the first wave of Net.Art alongside more recent projects produced since the rise of web 2.0, social networks and easily accessible search engines. Taking place in Vivid Projects’ physical space as well as occupying hyperlinks on its website, the Dot.Art season explores the internet as a medium and site for art from the 1990s through to the present day and includes an events series incorporating a reading group, talks, performances, screenings and workshops. These events will predominantly be announced via Vivid Projects and Office for Art, Design and Technology’s social media platforms.

In addition to the events programme, a unique, accredited Arts Award qualification for 11 – 15 year olds has been generously supported by Arts Connect. This programme consists of 4 sessions covering research skills, practical technological and artistic workshops and a small display of the works produced by participants.

Artists exhibiting in the Dot.Art season include: Young-Hae Chang Heavy Industries, Heath Bunting, MTAA, Rafaël Rozendaal, Critical Art Ensemble and others to be announced. Read more »

When Inside the White Cube first appeared in Artforum in 1976, its impact was immediate. Without a doubt, O'Doherty was the first to explicitly confront a particular crisis in postwar art as he sought to examine the assumptions on which the modern commercial and museum gallery was based.

Concerned with the complex and sophisticated relationship between economics, social context, and aesthetics as represented in the contested space of the art gallery, he raises the question of how artists must construe their work in relation to the gallery space and system.

But, what happens nowadays when this relationship takes place between the post-modern commercial and museum gallery and Digital Art?

Despite the fact that both Digital Art and have the ability to dissolve this dependence, does it seem that it still survives as a decisive factor in their future development, and social reception?

Furthermore, what can Digital Art & do inside the White Cube?

Taking this into account, Inside the | An Exhibition Online Gallery seeks for digital works that deal with a wide range of issues in connection with this theme by taking the Virtual Whit3 Cube as an essential part of the submitted piece.

Community Project - Line from Life

Line from Life is a community project to bring together the online and social community and visually represent our lives. Anyone can participate by going to You will be prompted in more detail to think of a unique part of your life and asked to scan and send your own mark/line that you create. It’s fun, simple, easy and fast so go check it out!

AnthroPosts organizes a growing collection of found Post-it notes in a variety of views, which colorful and symmetrical, evoke the simple beauty of a mandala. The project features sound recordings of anonymous online workers solicited through Amazon's Mechanical turk reading selected notes. The inferred significance of these hand-collected, hand-written notes contrasts our current age of shortened communication bursts, and causes the viewer to find a new appreciation in the written word. Additionally, he is provided with a renewed perspective on contemporary society: it's pace and consumption, and the double-edged sword of technology, at once enabling communication and isolating (some of) us from one another.

Afghan War Diary

INFORMATIONS—The website logs into an online war game server (Counter-Strike) to record real-time frags (game event of a player's killing). These frags trigger a search by chronological order in the Wikileaks Afghan War Diary database, which contains over 75,000 secret US military reports – the majority of these being lethal military actions involving the U.S. military. According to this data the location of the attack is displayed on the Google Earth mapping system. Read more »

Read more »
