net-art classic: The Simulator

Launch The Simulator [1997]

HTML-based work of a banal 'interactive' day. Building The Simulator is an attempt at accenting and exploring the edge between the simulacrum of the internet and banal physical existence. By reverting physicalness into digital space, one is alerted discrepancies between physical and digital existence. Physical concepts of linear time and space - when re-created in digital format - seem odd or humorous. Writing, working, and physically relaxing do not translate literally into a digital realm. The attempt to do so, however, makes the parallax between the two noticeable.

Seppukoo is the new artwork by Les Liens Invisibles. The website is designed to help people commit a symbolic, ritual suicide, killing their virtual identity. The main purpose of the project is to inspire a ludic introspection about using social networks, beginning with the most popular one: Facebook. The site also provide a memorial page on which users can write their last words. In the end, it all turns into a game, as you can score points by inviting your friends to committ a virtual suicide too. Read more »

letters demand things

poemstogo.PNG

having obtained identities long ago, they now demand to be typed, spoken, traced, heard, and related to in specific ways. and yet, for all their demands, they only exist as reflections of human handwriting and visual echoes of muscles and air working in concert to give them life as sound waves.

these two pieces examine some of these relationships and how we affect them as we become a part of the process. as in life, the experience of them will be unique each time they are opened, so if you are dissatisfied with a given configuration, feel free to destroy the window and try again.

Reflection-concept about content/no-content:

A random gallery of preloaders that announces the data-loading of the site no-content.org. It is, simultaneously, an aesthetic investigation on the creation of reactive-interactive objects and random audio surroundings, within the boundaries of minimum bytes possible.

Catalog of Internet Artists Clubs

online fiction.png

Websites in the catalog are categorized as either surf clubs, art clubs, or related sites. The term surf club originated from the Nasty Nets group blog tagline "Internet Surfing Club," and is often used to describe group artist blogs where the prevailing subject is internet culture and aesthetics and where lines are blurred between the roles of artist, curator, and archivist. In the age of social media, our conversations, gossip, discourses, research, decision making, organizational and artistic work are “intertwingled” (to use Ted Nelson’s playful term) with exponentially exploding repositories of media and information. Nowadays, our everyday communications are embedded with the metadata of search querys, hyperlinks, hashtags and usernames. To the extent that we practice these new techniques of “social taxonomy,” how can we use them to examine and dissect our individual and collective net behaviors?

During the month of March 2015, The NetArtizens Project was conducted as a social experiment in discourse and artistic production across 3 network channels: the NetBehaviours Mailing List, Twitter @NetArtizens, and the 0P3NR3P0.net open database repository for media art.  Over 75 artists have contributed so far to the NetArtizens Open Online Exhibition at 0P3NR3P0.net, an evolving showcase of online works submitted between March 2 and April 2, 2015.
